My husband, Kevin, and I live in the Tulane-Gravier neighborhood. It has been divided with the removal of over 200 homes to make way for the new Bio-District Hospital and Research Centers. Our little area used to be a pretty rough space. We moved in around a year and a half ago to vacant land across the street and blighted houses all around. Sitting in the middle of this block is the AME Church. Several years ago the AME church received the land and homes all around it by a parishioner. With the help of re-building grants they provided over thirty new, very well built homes for families moving back to New Orleans.
Today, all of these new families have returned. It's like an instant community. Parents walk their children to and from school everyday and take walks around their new homes. The neighborhood is coming alive after so many decades of crime and blight. It's not perfect but it's our home as we search to buy nearby.
Since we moved into the neighborhood, I have spent time observing. Every once in a while I pull out a camera and compose photographs of what I see daily, along with the changes. The images here are from a few weeks ago when my next door neighbor's kids were playing on the steps of their home. And oops! They got a little over-exhuberant and crash, bam! Ego was the only thing bruised!
How does this post relate to weddings and marriage? Many of my couples are marrying with children. Some escape the crazy of a big family environment to privately elope here in New Orleans. Others bring the family down and play round up! Either way I get to witness a coupling of less traditional families and experience their everyday little moments that make up life. Not a bad job huh?!!!
I accept a very limited number of family photography sessions each year. Call me if you are looking for something different.
