A recent conversation in our household. Disclosure: husband is a chef.
The Mundane of Marriage
me: What do you want to do today? (his day off)
Kevin: Well...yabbers about absolutely nothing related...
Me: First order of biz...what and when do you want to eat? (and the mundane begins)
Kevin: Mexican sounds good but our regular place is closed (Taqueria Guerrero)
Me: There are other places. We do have tacos we made in the fridge.
Kevin: I have to check if the hamburger meat is still good. (still sitting in a chair with no movement towards refrigerator)
Large gap in conversation as we stare at our electronic devices, feverishly reading.
Me: What do you want to eat?
Kevin: I don't want Asian or Pizza. Pasta ok.
Me: I don't want heavy, fattening food. How about crawfish?
Kevin: Our boil was cancelled.
Me: We can go to Rouses and get some.
Kevin: But they don't come with the fixins'.
Me: They package them separate. We can buy them pre-made.
Kevin: (crickets chirping)
Me: Go to the refrigerator and check our shit and see if it is okay to eat.
Kevin: ok
Me: Is the stuff ok?
Kevin: Yes.
Me: So what are we going to do about eating?
Kevin: Jesus f'n Christ...I thought we already resolved that.
And what are we going to eat? And we wonder why our day flies by and nothing gets done.
