With the permission of my dear bride with the ruined Kate Spade wedding shoes, I'm posting this as a very good wedding tip.

Always bring a second pair of shoes that are flat and comfortable for our shoots.

It was a rainy day with forecasts of 100% chance of rain during Christina and Mike's wedding ceremony in Jackson Square in the French Quarter. We had plans for cover if needed.

It had been raining all morning but luckily, once again, the rain stopped for our elopement ceremony and portraits.

Whew.

But my darling Christina 'thought' she could handle walking in the Quarter.

Well, between the open toes, spike heels and lack of support she was in some serious pain. A trooper she marched on with dirty, wet feet and blisters forming.

What does a girl do?

Well my girl said 'screw it' and took her shoes off once we reached the Riverwalk (it's not gross up there like it is on Bourbon Street). She waved the shoes over the trash can with full intentions to dispose of them but realizing she still had to go back through the Quarter to get a cab, so back on they went. Here's her advice:

"Oh my goodness, listen up ladies!!!! First of all, NO OPEN TOE SHOES. Go casual if your dress is long. Your feet will kill otherwise. Your'e only going to wear the dress once, so get dirty. Lets be realistic, your daughters are NOT going to want to wear it when they get married...lol... And you're right, I didn't care that it was dirty. I was loving every moment of my special day with my best friend!!!"

So take Christina's advice and mine. Bring a second pair of comfortable shoes to walk around in. You can swap into your good ones for formal wedding portraits but in the meantime you won't be thinking about how much your feet hurt or how dirty they are getting. The reality of the French Quarter and especially Bourbon Street is there are things you don't want your skin near.

Ewww.

Here are few of my favorite shots from their intimate New Orleans wedding
